You may encounter a situation where a cash register is not receptive to scanning a FPC or not accepting it manually and the cashier in her frustration indicates he/she is simply going to 'Void' it.

     Don't let that happen!!  Protest politely and simply ask him/her to call their supervisor.  There are times when such a transaction would never affect your shopping transaction however there are far more instances when it will.  If your habit is to never permit it to happen you won't be put on the spot mentally trying to figure out if permitting it will result in a negative financial outcome.

     In most instances it will!!  Besides the obvious inventory errors the store is going to have to balance later, your total transaction will NOT:
  1. Be credited the value of that item, thus reducing your total transaction 'Value' by that much;
  2. Receive the applicable points/miles/etc. that you should have as set out in various Rewards Program's Official Rules & Regulations;
  3. Reach the minimum 'Total Purchases' threshold amount required during promotions which award you Bonus Points/Miles when you spend X amount of money - if the value of that particular FPC item happens to be the make it or break it amount.

     Some of the Rewards Programs where earnings would be lost are Club Sobeys, Shoppers Optimum Program, Air Miles, Aeroplan and Canadian Tire Money - both on the card and in paper.
